Before jumping into the job market, learn more about yourself.
I was recently contacted by the Baltimore Banner to be interviewed for an article about networking for federal workers who have recently lost their jobs. The article is well-written and has good advice from a variety of sources. As I was reflecting on the fact that I was quoted in a respected, local publication, I was also thinking about how this article shouldn’t need to be written, that this article is being written because we are in the midst of an authoritarian government takeover and these folks are the first to go in a complete dismantling of the government as we know it.
So, please take the information from this article as you need it, reach out, find your community. Together we stand and defeat fascism and rebuild systems that support and honor all people (universal healthcare, affordable housing, no billionaires, strong worker rights and protections, etc).

“Checkin advises her clients to take a step back and reflect before jumping into the job search. People should self-reflect and take a moment to understand the emotions of navigating the job market, especially given what has happened…”

Reframe ‘Networking’ to ‘Relationships’
“Networking doesn’t always have to be done in a professional setting. it is more about finding connections and building relationships. Networking isn’t a one-sided transaction- be curious about the other person, you have something to offer as well,” said Baltimore career counselor Amanda Chenkin. It’s a relationship. Reach out and touch base with updates.” – Direct quote from the article.
